Parco di Turona
Leaving the farmhouse and advancing along the distance, you quickly get into the Parco
di Turona walk. This naturalistic distance inside pushes of a bush zone much evocative
composed one above all from cerro, with arboreal presence of the other species like reeds and
swampy canes. In this case a lot important is also the species of the underbrush,
that go from the ivy that grab hold of to the log of the trees, the hawthorn, the plum trees,
the brooms, the canine rose and the ligustro. Walking inside of the park, on ending of the winter,
we see these plants in flower and therefore the context acclimatizes them demonstrates to
cargo of colour and atmosphere.
An aspect not to underrate in visiting the zones of naturalistic
interest is in fact that every season introduces different scenes
making you live equally differentiated experiences.
This is also a place inserted in the archaeological distance,
to which you arrive after having seen the pit of Turona where one of
the many graves of the archaic period are conserved and whose
remains deserve a visit at the Territorial Museum of Bolsena.
Gran Carro
At the end of the fifties’, in the proximity of the farmhouse, and more precisely in the small village
of Gran Carro (km 108 on the state road Cassia), the remains of a village dated IX - VIII century
b.C. were recovered. In the whole of this area a lot of vases, bronze, wood and stone
manufactureditems were found, which are now exposed at the Territorial Museum of
the lake of Bolsena.
The Territorial Museum of the Lago of Bolsena
The Territorial Museum of the Lago of Bolsena, accommodated in the Rocca Monaldeschi of the
Cervara, represents a point of reference for the acquaintance and the documentation on the
history of the volsiniese volcanic district that go from the preistoria until to the most recent
manifestations of the local culture. To the entrance of the museum it dominates a large
sarcophagus to bathtub in decorated Greek marble with scenes of the cult of Bacchus.
In according to entrance hall the roman Lapidarium with inscriptions is placed.
In the geologic section various cliff champions
find themselves, between which one great
“volcanic bomb”. The age of the metals is
testified from finds of the age of the bronze and
of the iron. Some funerary items belong to
the Etruscan civilization; some ceramics,
lucerne and terracotta testify the presence of the roman civilization, like as an example “the
Throne of the Panthers”, dedicated to the cult of Bacchus. In the medieval section you can admire
the ancient rests of the fortification of the citizen next to a wide exposure of ceramics recovered
in “throw” of the Rocca. At last, a naturalistic section is dedicated to the life that is carried
out within and on the rivers of the volsiniese lake.
